Jonathan Cobb's Dad-Update

Here is an update on Jon's dad from Melissa:
Update on us...Jon's dad is still in ICU but he's stable. The doctors have narrowed down the diagnosis to a couple of different neurological diseases, they just haven't been able to make a final determination yet. Basically, the big problem is that his diaphragm isn't working, so they believe that it's a neurological cause, they just don't know if it's treatable or not (i.e., whether or not it's degenerative or can be reversed with therapy). He's in good spirits and has been alert and awake every day except for today. He was sedated most of the day because he had his pacemaker fixed today (one of the wires came loose), but thankfully, the pacemaker hasn't had to be used since they put it in b/c his heart has been beating steady and strong. Tomorrow is a big day because the doctors are doing a spinal tap to test for some chemicals that will help them in the diagnosis, so he'll be sedated most of tomorrow too. He's still on oxygen but hasn't been on a breathing tube since early last week (he has an oxygen mask that he wears but alternates using it and breathing on his own throughout the day).Jon, his mom and sisters are doing okay but are just really tired. Jon and I both were sick with the stomach flu last week (I gave it to him - how's that for love??) and they're all pretty drained but are doing better now that they've had a couple of nights to rest away from the hospital. We are so grateful for everyone's prayers and kind words and let you all know when we have some more news.
